So anyway we begrudgingly rolled out of our beds, left our room, made our way to the bus where we tried to get some more much-needed sleep and woke up in Stonehenge. It was BEAUTIFUL! It was really neat being able to read about all the different myths such as the Devil putting the stones there, or Merlin transporting the stones from Ireland to where they stand now, or the Druids building Stonehenge. The site was just pretty magical and it was so fascinating to look at! I couldn’t believe that I was really at the place I had seen so many times in photographs! It was just incredible and so pretty!
So pretty!
Magical!
Such a beautiful day!
The day itself was fantastic too! It was bright and sunny and WARM and it was just fabulous! We have been so lucky with the weather on our Saturday day trips, they have all been really sunny without rain and they have just been great traveling days!So after we spent about a half an hour walking around Stonehenge, we boarded the bus and headed to Salisbury, “The city in the countryside.” Before exploring the town, Bridget and I decided to go to Café Nerro and eat some lunch since we hadn’t eaten all day yet.
After that we walked to the Salisbury Cathedral and it was BEAUTIFUL. The gothic architecture was just GORGEOUS and I was completely enthralled by it! The cathedral is the finest medieval cathedral in the UK and there was so much to see!
Gorgeous! Just gorgeous!
The Spire is the tallest in Britain at 404 feet and inside the cathedral is the world’s oldest working clock dating back to 1386!The spire at 404 feet!
The oldest working clock in the world!
We also headed into the Chapter House to see the world’s best-preserved of only 4 original surviving Magna Carta from 1215. After the chapter house we made our way back into the cathedral where Bridget and I lit candles for our grandmothers.Where we lit candles for our grandmothers
My favorite stained glass window in the cathedral!
The entire cathedral was just so magnificent and there was such a calm atmosphere. It was definitely an experience that I will never forget. On the way into the city we passed an open-air market that we decided to go back to and check out and walk around for a bit before heading back to the bus.
After we got back, we decided to go to Pizza Express for dinner. We still weren’t feeling great and didn’t feel like going too far. So Alvin, Bridget and I headed out to the restaurant and had a really fun dinner! It was just a nice quiet evening which followed a really good day!
