Today Bridget and I went to do some retail therapy. I haven’t been in the best of moods lately for various reasons and though shopping isn’t always the best idea in such circumstances, I was hoping that it would help to significantly improve the situation. We also wanted to grab some of the great discounts and sales that Primark had. So after I wrote my essay this morning, we headed out to Oxford Street.
As we were walking on York Bridge Road, I see this truck and what appears to be salt coming out of it. “Are they salting already?!” I asked. You see, we are expected to get some snow here (for like the first time in years…I can already see the headlines tomorrow “New York Girl Deported for Bringing Snow to UK”…) but not until later and it seemed silly that they were already salting at 2:00PM. So we keep walking and all the while the salt truck is stopped at a red light. So we are getting closer and closer and I am talking about how silly it is that they are salting already when we start getting hit by salt. “I am getting hit in the shoulder!” Bridget said. “Oh shut up! It is height level to me, I am getting hit in the face!!” I shouted. “We’re being assaulted by a salt truck!” Bridget proclaimed (only us English majors, I swear…!) I think it was the hardest I have laughed in a really long time.
So anyway, we get to Oxford Street and Primark was PACKED. I have never seen so many people in my whole entire life, not even on Black Friday!!!!! So we grabbed these hamper basket thingies and went through the store grabbing things left and right. After standing on line for like 15 minutes (I swear it was A LOT longer…) for the fitting rooms, we found out we can only bring 8 items in each…so we weeded out what we really wanted to try on, took those and went in. After a bit, we each came out of the dressing room empty-handed (our bank accounts thanked us…). We decided to go upstairs to check out the shoes and purses but we got separated in the chaos as we both went in different directions to check on what we needed. About a text and phone call later, we met back up, looked at each other and just smiled. We pretty much knew that this shopping trip was over and had been unsuccessful.
On the way back we stopped into that shoe store (you know…the one with the 5 pairs for £25 sale!) and I saw this GORGEOUS pair of heeled black leather boots…and I WANTED them but they were EXPENSIVE!!! So I talked myself out of it, all the while proclaiming how beautiful these shoes were and crying/dying a little bit on the inside! So we left and headed back towards Regent’s. We had skipped lunch earlier but were beginning to get hungry and it was COLD so we decided to stop into Starbucks for some warmth and food.
So we sat, and we ate and we talked…and talked, and talked, and talked some more…We talked about everything and anything and before we knew it, two hours had passed! It was fabulous just sitting and talking about nothing and everything, and it was just an incredible conversation that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. =)
Once again, a much needed and fairly PERFECT day with the bestest!!
