Wednesday was a day of many things. It was New Year’s Eve, it was the one-year anniversary of my Grandma’s death, and it was the 2-week mark until I leave for London. As you can see, various emotions from sadness and reflection to nervousness and fear to excitement were running through me. So I began thinking, and it left me feeling rather unprepared for London.
I mean sure, I bought luggage, I have checked out the school website, I have scouted dozens of websites for recommendations on the best bars, I have gotten together tattoo ideas for the tattoo I want to get over there, we have researched when Ireland’s blackout dates are, I got my first pedicure and RELAXED, I spent time with and talked to some of my best friends, etc.
And while all those things are great, I still have not done any of the other things I feel I should: gotten travelers cheques, called my credit card companies and bank to tell them I will be overseas so they don’t freeze my accounts, gone to doctor’s appointments I should have done months ago, determined what I was taking, spent time with some of the other most important people in my life, etc.
As I began to worry about being unprepared, I realized that I actually WAS preparing, just in different ways. By spending time with some of my friends and family I had gotten invaluable advice and suggestions about London and life in general.
Here are some of my favorites from conversations in the past week:
“Tammy, you should buy the matching bra to that underwear. What if you have a HOT DATE?!”(Said rather loudly in the middle of JcPenny, by a family member nonetheless!)
“Boys are like unicorns. The good ones are very rare, hard to find, and even harder to catch. But once you do catch them, they are magical.”
“I just need to know the important stuff. How/where you met, how old, hot or not, how big and was it good”
I am sure these will carry me through the rest of my preparation, as well as my time in London! =)
