After classes and general lazing around (meaning Bridget watched a movie and I napped), we headed out to the Absolut Ice Bar. Tara was sick and staying in so it was just Bridget and I. When we got there and checked in, we were given big cape-like things with gloves to keep us warm and to protect the ice.
We got inside and it was really cool! (hahaha no pun intended!) The walls and the entire bar was made out of ice and the theme was something to do with mechanical things and gears and stuff. Included with our admission fee was 1 drink (which also came in glasses made out of ice!). I got a metal gear…some coffee-tasting drink and Bridget got the fruitier tasting reactor. The reactor was really neat because after the bartender mixed it, it became a neon green color!
Bridget's Reactor. It's neon green!
So we took our drinks and our ice glasses and went to sit down. We just sat there talking, the photographer came over and took our picture to put on the ice bar’s website (unfortunately you have to pay weird amounts to get a copy of it…) and before we knew it they were telling everyone that our 40 minutes was up and that we had to make our way to the door. The time went so fast and although my roommate was beginning to freeze, I was still quite warm!
When we got out of the ice bar we decided to make our way to the Shaftesbury Theatre and see if we could get cheaper Hairspray tickets. I loved it when I saw it for class and really wanted to see it with Bridget since it is just such a feel good, fun show! So we went and got £65 seats in the stalls for £40. Not bad!
After the show we headed back to Piccadilly to go to T.G.I. Friday’ s (we frequent that place WAY too much) for dinner. After some pasta and some Long Island Iced Teas, we called it a night and headed back to Regent’s!
Good Friday
We bummed around most of the day, sleeping/staying in bed until after noon. Then we decided to go to Starbucks to finish up some reading we had for class. I don’t know if it was the different atmosphere or the coffee/tea that we got but we both finished our novels in no time! When we came back to school we watched Hairspray and then got ready to go to dinner with Katie. We ended up at ASK for dinner and then afterwards headed back to Regent’s to do some more bummin’ around!
Saturday
We had a lazy morning, mostly sitting and watching the 5 episodes of “Beware of Attack Fireman” on youtube (3 of the guys we know from CHC made up this show…enough said!) and then we finally got moving and went to Kensington Palace. It was really neat (although we both concurred that we would have liked more about Princess Diana and her time there) and we got to see some of the dresses that she wore to certain events like movie premieres, etc. We also got to see a whole exhibit on the Debutantes and how they were presented, etc. It was such an interesting exhibit! After we finished our tour inside we went to see the Sunken Garden. Afterwards since we were both starting to feel pretty tired and a bit sick, we decided to head back to school to rest before dinner.
Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace!
Sunken Garden again, from the side this time!
We went to dinner at Savannah Jerk (formerly known as Mr. Jerk!), a Caribbean restaurant. I was super excited as this is my heritage and some of the food I hadn’t eaten since my grandma had passed away. So I got jerk chicken (no one else would even try it!) and it was soo hot but sooooo good!!! It came with rice and peas and I got plantains on the side. To stay true to my Jamaican side I decided to try a pint of the Red Stripe lager. It was good and I really enjoyed it! Katie, Danny and Bridget all got curry chicken. Bridget got a Savannah rum punch which was made of Appleton Estate rum, tropical juice, guanabana juice, grenadine and a lime. Katie ordered a mojito and OMG! The bartender came over and told her he made it strong…but DAMN! He put 2 different kinds of rum in it and that is pretty much all you could taste. There was no mint or lime flavor and she might as well have been drinking straight rum! It was just a fun night in which I had a really good meal with great people and got a Red Stripe pint glass out of the deal... =)Now I have a Guinness pint glass and a Red Stripe pint glass…my heritage in 2 glasses…I am set! =)
After dinner we stopped at Baskin Robbins for some ice cream and returned to school to call it an early night…we had to get up for church in the morning!
Easter Sunday
We got up and Bridget, Katie and I went to the 10:15AM Easter mass at St. Paul’s. It was a really pretty service and the choir sounded really nice, but they were rather quiet since it was such a large space with so many people!
After mass we went to brunch at one of the little cafés on Baker Street. I got scrambled eggs and toast and was SOOO excited! I haven’t had scrambled eggs since I left home and they were actually really good!
When brunch was over we headed back to school to get some homework done and what not before we met up again for Easter dinner. I actually didn’t do any homework and instead skyped my parents for a while and then sat in a daze not really feeling all too well.
For dinner we were hoping to go to Spaghetti House but they were closed so we went to Bella Italia instead (have you guys figured out that we love Italian food yet?). By the time that dinner was over, the illness that Bridget and I have been sharing back and forth for weeks had hit me hard and I was ready to crawl into bed and go to sleep!
It was a pretty quiet night. Bridget and I got into bed and tried to watch some Sex and the City episodes but the site kept skipping ahead episodes, not letting us watch a full one, so I just went to sleep and then woke up right before midnight remembering that I had not called my aunts yet to wish them a Happy Easter. So after a few quick phone calls I went back to sleep hoping to wake up and feel better on Monday.
Easter Monday
Unlike in the US, Easter Monday is a bank holiday here and therefore, I did not have to go to school today. This is very lucky for me since I am still feeling quite sick! So I have, once again, been pretty lazy and have been sitting in bed all day, updating my blog and uploading pictures to facebook and trying to get better before we go to Venice!
