April 1st and the Early Morning Hours of April 2nd

Last Wednesday after I updated and was supposed to go do homework, I decided to go and get a pedicure and manicure. After all, the next day was my 21st and I thought I deserved it. So with a final push out the door from Bridget (I like to talk sometimes…) I headed to the California Nail Bar. I was there for a while but it was totally worth it as my nails looked really nice and I had never gotten a manicure before. I rushed back to school because I had to go to watch the movie Atonement with my English class. We had read the book earlier in the semester and she was showing the movie. It was optional, but I hadn’t seen it before and it felt like a good break from homework (that I wasn’t doing anyway…) and what not.

When I got out of the movie, Bridget had gone to meet her cousin, Mike who was spending a few days in London. She asked if I wanted to go to dinner with them and then stay out until midnight to kick off my birthday celebrations. I went to the tube station to meet them and we decided to go to Ask for dinner. We ate and talked and had gotten 2 bottles of the Rosaspina wine and it was just a good time. At the end when the bill came we had only been charged for one of the bottles of wine. It must have been the birthday vibes!

So we headed back to Regent’s to show Mike where we go to school and then headed back out to Piccadilly Circus for a few rounds. We decided to go to O’Neill’s. However, when we got back to the tube station, I realized I had forgotten my oyster card (like a metro card) in my other purse which had broken and I couldn’t use. So I had to buy a return trip ticket. Well my ticket was only a return for April 1st, which meant I had to be back inside the tube by midnight or else I had to buy another one to get home.

No big deal, the trains stop shortly after midnight anyway so it was only a little bit of rushing. So we headed to O’Neill’s and since it was a Wednesday night, it was much more manageable than it usually is on a Thursday or Friday. We had a few rounds and danced and talked and it was just a lot of fun! Definitely a great way to kick off the birthday celebrations!

We were on the tube somewhere between Regent's Park and Baker Street when midnight hit and I exclaimed “I am officially 21!” Since my dad and I share a birthday I got off the tube and called home to wish him a “Happy Birthday - London time” and then I came to a realization. For the first time in my life, I wasn’t sharing my birthday yet. I had 5 hours of MY birthday all to myself because it wasn’t April 2nd in the USA! It was a weird feeling but kind of cool and funny too!

During the phone call we decided that since I was close enough to school, we would hang up and just skype when I got back. So I came back, called the parents on skype, opened my birthday cards that they had sent over the camera so they could see, and talked for a bit more. However, I still had classes the next day so it was time to go to bed!
